Thank you to everyone who joined us live for the ICA’s special webinar yesterday, presenting the Initial Report of the WIPO–ICA UDRP Review Project Team. It was a great session, and we’re excited to share the recording with you.
This collaborative project, co-led by Brian Beckham (WIPO) and Zak Muscovitch (ICA), reflects on nearly 25 years of the UDRP and explores ways to strengthen it through thoughtful, incremental improvements.
During the webinar, Brian and Zak outlined the project’s collaborative approach, which included 16 core experts and consultations with 23 additional professionals. The goal: identifying potential improvements without destabilizing the existing system.
Key topics discussed included:
-
Registrar verification procedures
-
Fee payment deadlines
-
The potential for an appeals layer
-
Challenges of implementing changes like a “loser pays” system
Brian and Zak emphasized a two-tiered strategy: Quickly addressing areas with broad consensus, while identifying more complex issues requiring ongoing discussion. The goal remains clear—preserve the effectiveness of the UDRP while adapting it for the future.
Since there wasn’t nearly enough time to get through everything during the one hour, please feel free to submit follow-up questions —we’ll forward them to Zak and Brian. You can submit your feed back on the report here by June 27, 2025.
Please feel free to share this recording and resources with friends and colleagues in the industry.
Thank you to Brian and Zak, the co-leads of the report and webinar hosts, as well as to the entire project team!
