The ICA, which has been a leading advocate for domain name registrant rights since its founding in 2006, congratulates Universidad Católica del Norte, along with Humberto Rolando Carrasco Blanc, Margarita Valdés, Kathy Kleiman, Chris Reed, and Javier Maestre Rodríguez, on receiving an ICANN grant dedicated to supporting UDRP defenses.
This groundbreaking initiative—the first of its kind—can help domain name registrants to have a stronger voice and meaningful support in navigating UDRP proceedings.
The ICA has long emphasized the importance of preserving balance in the UDRP. While the policy plays a vital role in protecting trademark rights, it must also uphold the rights of legitimate domain name registrants. This grant and the leadership of its recipients present a significant opportunity to advance that balance and strengthen the fairness of the process.
ICA’s members include many attorneys who have been defending registrants against UDRP complaints for over 25 years. We know firsthand how vital fair representation is to maintaining the integrity of the UDRP.
We applaud ICANN for funding this important work and wish the entire project team much success as they take on this critical endeavor.
