Annual Meeting Report

Dear ICA Members and Newsletter Subscribers:

Your feedback is welcome and appreciated. ICA wants to hear about issues that concern its members.

Annual Meeting
ICA held its Annual Meeting on September 23rd in Brooklyn, New York. Jeremiah Johnston, President, shared his vision for more participation by domainers and for better planning including mechanisms for quicker response to urgent issues. There was lively discussion of issues, particularly the timely event unfolding that morning in Kentucky.

Kentucky Seizure Order
Opposition and frustration continue to mount to the Kentucky Governor’s seizure order of 140 gambling-related domain names. Some are the domain names of leading online gaming sites and many others, like GamblingBoard.com, just contained links to gaming sites. Would the citizens of Kentucky tolerate the seizure of one of its business’ domain names by Iran because of an ad that linked to a dating site that included gay introductions? I am sure that is illegal there.

The next hearing is October 7th and ICA will be filing a brief in the case opposing the states overreaching order. Visit InternetCommerce.org for more information and updates as the case progresses. Please help ICA in this fight by joining or donating. We accept online payments including PayPal without any minimum.

Officers and Directors
Last call for nominations/volunteers for ICA Director candidates – Please reply if you want to serve or if you want to nominate someone for a leadership role at ICA. I will be posting election procedures and candidate information soon.

mTLD - .mobi
Lori Anne Wardi, CEO of Dream Big Media requested ICA assistance in regard to an ongoing trademark dispute she has with mTLD, operator of the .mobi registry. ICA Members and the Board agreed with Ms. Wardi that this situation has import as a potentially adverse precedent for domain investors far beyond this case.
