The Snowe bill has not moved out of sub-committee nor does it seem to be gaining significant momentum in this presidential election year. However, we are still being vigilant. I am still trying to get a commitment from Senator Nelson to meet with Florida domainers, hopefully in Miami.
We are planning a special event for domainers at TRAFFIC in Orlando. If you want to help plan or help put on an event in Orlando, please reply. Attend the conference that will completely change the way you think about the internet! I hope to see you in Orlando.
Domainer Meeting, June 19-20 and ICANN Paris, June 22-26
The Domainer Meeting in Paris in the days before the ICANN meeting held at the same hotel presents a great opportunity for domainers to attend a great domain conference and then stay for an ICANN meeting. As we did for domainers attending the ICANN meeting in LA, ICA will prepare an ICANN Meeting Guide for the Paris meeting. It will layout our issues and ICA’s position on those issues. It will also provide guidance about where and when our issues are likely to be discussed. We will include information to help domainers who want to speak to the ICANN board or the GNSO Council during open meetings.
Phil Corwin, ICA Counsel, is speaking at Domainer Meeting on Thursday afternoon about the Snowe bill and other threats to our businesses. Shortly afterward, during the cocktail time, we will gather with domainers who are staying over for the ICANN meeting to discuss our issues and answer questions. I hope that we see many European domainers come to the ICANN meeting. Paris is a great place to go for a meeting, no matter where you are from. I hope to see you there.
